It was Hagel’s desire to step down, says U.S. President
(IraqiNews.com) On Monday, U.S. President Barack Obama made a statement on the resignation of Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel from the White House.
Hagel stood alongside Obama during the speech when Obama said, “Chuck Hagel has been no ordinary secretary of Defense. He understood the challenges soldiers face… like few others.”
It was Hagel’s decision to step down and leave the White House, Obama added.
“On behalf of a grateful nation, thank you Chuck,” he said.
Hagel spoke following Obama, saying: “I have today submitted my resignation as Secretary of Defense. It’s been the greatest privilege of my life. I am immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished during this time.”
