 ISIS stole $1 billion after controlling Mosul, says Gen. Steve Warren

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Tuesday the international coalition spokesman Steve Warren said, that the so-called ISIS stole one billion dollars after controlling Mosul and a number of Iraqi cities in June 2014, stressing that ISIS is depending on “extortion and kidnapping” as the main source of funding.

Warren said in a press interview followed by IraqiNews.com, “ISIS stole one billion dollars from banks during its control on Mosul and a number of Iraqi cities in June 2014,” adding that, “ISIS used oil smuggling as the main source of funding,” pointing out that, “ISIS imports declined by 50 percent after cracking down ISIS petroleum sites.”

Warren continued, “ISIS depends on extortion and kidnappings as the main source of funding,” noting that, “Interpol is exercising significant efforts to fight the smuggling of antiquities which represents one of ISIS funding sources.”
