(IraqiNews.com) An ISIS chemical weapons expert was killed in an air strike near Mosul, U.S. Central Command said last Friday.

A chemical weapons expert for the ISIS group, known as Abu Malik, has been killed in an air strike by the U.S.-led international coalition against ISIS gathering sites near the city of Mosul.

Abu Malik had been a chemical weapons engineer during the rule of Saddam Hussein and then affiliated himself with al-Qaeda Iraq in 2005, U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

“His death is expected to temporarily degrade and disrupt the terrorist network and diminish its ability to potentially produce and use chemical weapons against innocent people,” it added.
