ISIS destroyed 3 strategic bridges linking Kirkuk with 3 provinces, says local official

(IraqiNews.com) Kirkuk – On Thursday, Kirkuk Directorate of Roads and Bridges announced, that ISIS had destroyed three strategic bridges linking Kirkuk province with three provinces.

The head of the directorate, Ghazi Abdullah, stated in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “ISIS destroyed three strategic bridges linking Kirkuk with the provinces of Baghdad, Nineveh and Salahuddin,” noting that, “Those bridges were from the largest and longest bridges.”

Abdullah added, “The bridges are Shanshal Bridge, located near al-Azeem in Diyali, Zgiton Bridge in al-Rashad area towards Tikrit and Shemit Bridge which links Kirkuk with Nineveh.”

  1. ISIS destroyed the bridges to slow down the advance of the Iraqi forces. Earlier in the war Iraq forces even destroyed some of the bridges to slow down the advance of ISIS forces. By the time the war is finished in the ISIS occupied areas nearly all the bridges would have been destroyed.
