Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the blast, which hit eastern Baghdad earlier on Monday.

In a statement circulated on social media platforms, the militant group said the blast was caused by a booby-trapped vehicle in Jameela market.

Meanwhile, a source from the Iraqi Health Ministry said the death toll reached 12, in addition to 30 others wounded.

Earlier on the day, Mohamed al-Rubei’y, head of the security committee of Baghdad provincial council, told Sputnik that thirteen civilians were killed and injured as a booby-trapped vehicle exploded in east of the capital. Another blast occurred as an IED exploded on Monday at al-Yusufiya region, in south of Baghdad, which caused death of four persons and injury of eight others, a police source told AlSumaria News.

The car, according to Rubei’y, exploded at Jamila region, located in Sadr city, in east of Baghdad, leaving three civilians killed, one of whom succumbed to death at hospital.

Ten others were seriously injured, he added.

Several explosions occurred in Baghdad on Sunday. Three civilians were killed and injured as an IED went off at an area southwest of Baghdad. This came a few hours after two car bombings rocked two areas also southwest of Baghdad, killing and wounding eight people.

Violence and armed conflicts left more than 500 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of July, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths.
