Kurdish Peshmerga foil ISIS attack near Mosul Dam

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, a source within the paramilitary Kurdish Peshmerga troops revealed that the Kurdish fighters foiled an ISIS attack on the area surrounding Mosul Dam.

The source informed IraqiNews, “In the early hours of the morning, ISIS militants attacked the area surrounding Mosul Dam, located 25 km northwest of al-Mosul. The ISIS militants appeared from al-Wana area, located 8 km north of Mosul, then after clashing with Kurdish fighters near the dam, they had to retreat.”

Noteworthy, Mosul Dam was built in 1983 on the Tigris River at the Lake of al-Mosul, located 50 km north of Mosul. It stands to be the biggest dam in Iraq and the fourth biggest dam in the Middle East.
