 Military reinforcements from Baghdad arrive in Basra

(IraqiNews.com) Basra – The commander of Basra Operations Major General Samir Abdul Karim announced the arrival of military reinforcements including Infantry regiment equipped with tanks and armored vehicles coming from Baghdad according to the orders of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to bolster the security in Basra.

Abdul Karim said in a statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “The security forces participated immediately upon its arrival in the security operations that were carried out by the Operations Command in Abi al-Khasib District to search for weapons and wanted men.”

Abdul Karim added, “The raids and search operations contributed significantly to the reduction of tribal conflicts and organized crime,” pointing out that, “These operations will continue until we make sure the city of Basra is troubles-free.”

Noteworthy, Basra witnessed the arrival of similar troops from Baghdad, but it returned back to Baghdad few days later, and this issue sparked controversy among political mediums after the outbreak of tensions between al-Hashed al-Shaabi and that troops.
