Obama may speed up training and arming Iraq’s tribal forces

(IraqiNews.com) US officials said that US President Barack Obama may accelerate the training and arming of Iraqi clans.
Obama had met with the National Security Council on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Iraq and the strategy of fighting ISIS militants.
The White House said that Obama reiterated strong US support for Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi. US President Barack Obama chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to assess the situation in Iraq and examine the possibility of accelerating aid, in addition to arming local clans in the hope of restoring the city of Ramadi, which fell into the hands of ISIS jihadists.
The spokesman of National Security Council, Alastair Basque said, “We are studying how to provide the best possible support for ground troops in Anbar in particular by speeding up the rehabilitation and equipping of local clans and support the process carried out by Iraq in order to restore Ramadi.”
