Peshmerga launch military operation to free Sinjar from ISIS

(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, the Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces began an extensive military operation to regain control over the Sinjar area in the northwest of Iraq from ISIS, with support from the international coalition aircraft.

IraqiNews.com quoted a brigadier in the Kurdish forces as saying, “At 7 in the morning, Peshmerga forces carried out an operation to liberate some of the important areas in Sinjar, Zammar.”

The source added, “The attack is continuous with support from warplanes of the international coalition that has been striking ISIS sites in Zammar and Sinjar since last night.”

The source indicated, “Peshmerga have so far managed to free three villages that were under ISIS control, and restore the Triangle area located between Sinjar and the Rabia on the border with Syria.”
