 Security forces begin military operation to liberate al-Sofiya, Ramadi

Al-Anbar (IraqiNews.com) The Golden Division in Anbar province announced on Sunday, the beginning of a military operation to liberate al-Sofiya area east of Ramadi, noting that the security forces entered the area from three axes.

The Golden Division deputy commander Brigadier Gen. Abdul Amir al-Khazraji said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “Counter-Terrorism forces backed by the security elements, tribal fighters, the Air Force and Army Aviation began this morning a military operation to liberate al-Sofiya area east of Ramadi.”

Khazraji added, “The forces entered the area from three axes, and are now progressing greatly.”

Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Kazim Fahdawi announced on Sunday morning that an ISIS attack on the governmental complex in downtown Ramadi was repelled, adding that heavy losses were inflicted upon ISIS elements, forcing them to withdraw.
