(IraqiNews.com) Salahaddin – A security source announced early on Wednesday, that the security forces managed to free 50 families who were withheld by the so-called ISIS as hostages north of Samarra south of Tikrit (170 km north of Baghdad).

The source said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com, “This morning the security forces liberated 50 families who were withheld by ISIS elements as hostages near Leine area north of Samarra (40 km south of Tikrit).”

The source, who asked anonymity, added: “The security forces evacuated the families to safe areas.”

Noteworthy the Joint Operations Command announced on Tuesday the start of major operations to cleanse the area of ​​ al-Jazeera area north of Samarra south of Tikrit (170 km north of Baghdad).
