Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) has found 16 IEDS and two mortar missiles in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

“A force has destroyed 16 locally-manufactured IEDs from the remnants of the Islamic State (IS) found in western Baghdad,” the BOC said in a statement on Sunday.

“Another force has found two mortar missiles and an IED in southern Baghdad,” the statement added.

On another note, a police source told Baghdad Today that a security force has managed to dismantle two IEDs planted on a side of an agriculture road in al-Radwaniyah area, west of Baghdad.

The sourced noted that the operation was carried out according to accurate intelligence information.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Bombings and armed attacks are seen on almost a daily basis against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016.

More than 500 Iraqis were killed and injured during the month of July due to violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
