Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Six suspects were arrested over doubts of involvement in firing rockets against Tuz Khurmatu town, a source from the prime minister’s office said on Friday.

“Surveillance jets followed the perpetrators who fired the rockets last week. They were besieged in several houses in Calar region, west of Tuz Khurmatu,” the source told Alghad Press.

“Preliminary investigations showed that two of the suspects belonged to the so-called ‘White Flags’ group,” he added.

“Intelligence operations were launched ten days ago to follow the groups which seek destabilizing security in Tuz Khurmatu,” the source said. “Military reinforcements dispatched by the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to Tuz Khurmatu come within the plan drawn to eliminate the group and reveal its supporters.”

On Wednesday, huge reinforcements arrived from central and south of Iraq in preparation for operations against villages in the town.

PMFs media service quoted Abu Reda al-Najjar, commander of the “northern axis” of the force’s operations, on Tuesday saying an operation against mainly Kurdish separatist groups in Salahuddin province’s restive region of Tuz Khurmatu s imminent to “clear the mountains overlooking Turkmen villages. He added that the offensive is targeting the “White Flags”, a nascent entity composed of a number of separatist groups, most notably the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), a militia fighting for Iranian Kurds’ independence.
