Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) The son of Islamic State’s so-called war minister was killed in clashes with Iraqi troops in north of Salahuddin province, a security source said.

“A group of IS militants, headed by the son of the group’s so-called war minister, abu Omar al-Chichani, who was killed more than a year ago, attacked on Monday the Iraqi troops deployed in Hamreen mountains. Several militants, including Chichani’s son, were killed,” the source told AlSumaria News on Tuesday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added, “Chichani’s son used to lead the so-called ‘invasions brigade’ in Nineveh, before he fled, along with others, to Hawija in Kirkuk, after the province was liberated. He worked on forming the brigade again.”

The group, according to the source, “kept the news on his death as secret and buried him in Hawija.”

In 2016, the U.S.-led coalition confirmed the death of Chichani in Syria.

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

Iraqi government is urged to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.
