Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State teenager has killed a leader and injured his mother in Tal Afar, west of Mosul, a local source from Nineveh was quoted saying.

Speaking to AlSumaria News on Sunday, the source said “an IS teenager pointed his gun, today, at his mother and the group’s leader in charge of the so-called ‘Cubs of the Caliphate’ in Tal Afar as he found them together in his house. The leader was killed, while the mother was shot in the chest and foot without being killed.”

“The teenager refused to turn himself in after the accident to the militants. Clashes occurred before he was killed,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.

Tal Afar is one of the important strongholds still held by IS in Nineveh since August 2014, when the militants occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim its self-styled “caliphate”. The town has been set as the next target of operations after victory was declared in Mosul on July 10.

On Saturday, the Iraqi Defense Ministry indicated cooperation by civilians in Tal Afar, saying they provide security forces with accurate information on Islamic State fighters.

In July, Iraqi Defense Ministry said a date has been set for the invasion of the town, however, it will not be declared to maintain the secrecy of the intended operations.
