 U.S., partner continue airstrikes against IS forces in Syria, Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) U.S. and partner-nation military forces continued to attack the Islamic State (IS) targets in Syria and Iraq over the past three days, a statement of U.S. Defense Department said on Wednesday.

In Syria, five airstrikes destroyed three IS buildings, an IS staging area, an IS bunker, an IS mortar, three IS tactical units and two IS fighting positions, according to the statement.

Separately, U.S. and partner-nation military forces conducted 61 airstrikes in Iraq using fighter, bomber and remotely-piloted aircraft.

Some 16 attacks destroyed two IS heavy machine guns, eight IS buildings, four IS tactical units, two IS vehicles, two IS guard towers and six IS containers, the statement said.

An additional 45 strikes in Iraq were conducted in support of the Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces, destroying approximately 50 targets, including bulldozers, vehicles, checkpoints, fighting positions and equipment.

The destruction of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group’s ability to project terror and conduct operations.
