Person arrested for selling weapons over Facebook

(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, the Interior Ministry announced that a person was arrested for selling weapons over the social networking website “Facebook,” pointing out that the ministry has departments that monitor those websites.

Ministry spokesman Brigadier Gen. Saad Maan said during a press conference held today in Baghdad, attended by IraqiNews.com, “There are some weak-minded people who promote the sale and transfer of arms from one place to another through social networking websites, forgetting that those websites were established for humanitarian service.”

Maan added, “Security forces managed to arrest one of the people who created a Facebook account in order to promote and sell weapons,” pointing out that, “The arrest was in accordance with Article 27 of the Arms Act.”

He continued, “Communications between the Directorate of Public Relations and Media and Directorate of Organized Crime are established to monitor such cases.”
