Pohang suffer defeat ahead of ACL

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Pohang Steelers squandered a chance to go into Wednesday’s AFC Champions League 2014 quarter-final clash as K League Classic leaders after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Jeonbuk Motors on Saturday.

Lee Seung-ki and Lee Dong-gook scored a goal each to help Jeonbuk stay at the summit of the league table – four points ahead of Pohang, who could have leapfrogged Jeonbuk had they won the match.

The win provided a modicum of revenge for 2006 ACL champions Jeonbuk Motors who were ousted from this season’s ACL by Pohang with a 3-1 aggregate score in the competition’s Round of 16 stage.

Pohang are set to face yet another Korean side, FC Seoul, on Wednesday in the ACL 2014 quarter-finals to be played at Pohang Steelyard.

The 2013 ACL runners-up FC Seoul recorded an impressive 5-1 victory over Incheon United ahead of the all-Korean clash. /End/
