33 Egyptian soldiers killed by militants in Sinai

North Sinai, Egypt (IraqiNews.com) On Saturday, security officials stated that 33 security elements, based in northern Sinai were killed during two militant attacks on a checkpoint.

The attacks killed 33 army personnel on Friday, security sources said. The first attack targeted two armored vehicles at a checkpoint near an army installation while the second attack took place hours later when gunmen opened fire on a checkpoint in Al-Arish, killing three members of the security forces.

The casualties were transported to a main base near Cairo by military helicopters, and a military funeral for the killed soldiers took place today in Cairo, as reported by state news agency MENA.
