(IraqiNews.com) Jakarta – The commander of Indonesia’s armed forces announced on Monday that the Indonesian army launched an operation to combat “terrorism” on the island of Sulawesi in eastern Indonesia to eliminate gunmen suspected of having links to ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Reuters news agency quoted the armed forces chief General Moeldoko as saying that, “the army helps the police in the island to track down terrorists and to shed light on the extent of the Indonesian government concerns of those who have pledged allegiance to ISIS and fought in Iraq and Syria to return to the largest Muslim country in terms of population after training there.”

Gen. Moeldoko added, “The Indonesian military will not give any space to ISIS to evolve or grow in the country.”

It is noteworthy that a major military campaign is carrying out by Indonesia to combat terrorism since the capital Jakarta bombings in 2009.
