(IraqiNews.com) On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the so-called the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was able to extend its control over 40% of Iraqi territory thanks to weapons provided by the United States to the Iraqi army which it had seized.

While attending a seminar of the French Institute of International Relations in Paris, Erdogan said, “Overnight we saw weapons provided by the United States to the Iraqi army fall into the hands of the organization ISIS, and thus enable the organization to extend its control over 40% of Iraqi territory thanks to those weapons.”

Erdogan criticized those who accuse his country of supporting  ISIS, “Turkey has not  committed an error or supported ISIS terrorists, because it has been struggling against terrorism  for over 33 years and we know very well what is terrorism,” adding that “ISIS  is the result of many years of conflict in Iraq and Syria.”
