Raqqa (Syria News) The self-proclaimed Islamic State group launched, at dawn today, a surprise attack on locations of the Syrian army, south of Raqqa, Qasioun News reported.

The Islamic State militants launched an attack on the locations of the Syrian army, near the city of Rasafa, in the southern countryside of Raqqa.

More than 12 members of the regime forces, and their allied militias, were wounded during the attack, as well as destroying two military vehicles, according to media sources belonging to the Islamic State group.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out between the two sides after the attack, amid heavy artillery shelling carried out by the Syrian forces, without causing any casualties.

It is noteworthy, Islamic State group lately captured wide areas of the city of Raqqa, while Syrian forces conducted several operations to retake the city.

This morning, Syria’s army and its allies reached the edge of al-Sukhna, the last town held by Islamic State in Homs province and a key step in their multi-pronged offensive against the militants.
