New Russian Humanitarian Aid Convoy Crosses Ukrainian Border
International (IraqiNews.com) A Russian humanitarian aid convoy withmore than170 trucks carrying 1,900 tons offood, medicine, and construction materials has crossed the border intoeastern Ukraine, a representative forthe Russian Emergencies Ministry national center forcrisis situations said Thursday.
“Emergencies Ministry vehicles withhumanitarian aid forDonbas have completed customs atthe two border control points ofDonetsk and Matveyev Kurgan. All ofthe vehicles have gone throughall ofthe formalities ofcustoms and border control and have crossed the border [into Ukraine],” the representative said.
The representative stated that the convoy will be split intwo, one heading forthe self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), and the other tothe Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) and both are projected toarrive attheir destination points ina few hours.
For the first time an aid convoy fromRussia tothe eastern Ukraine will include Moscow Department ofRussian Red Cross vehicles carrying foodstuffs and medical supplies.
A military conflict begun inApril 2014 betweenKiev forces and independence supporters ofthe Donbas region has led toa catastrophic humanitarian crisis. The crises has prompted Russia tosend over25,000 tons ofhumanitarian aid tothe breakaway republics sinceAugust 2014.
