Obama opens the door to “limited” deployment of ground combat troops to fight ISIS

(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, president Barack Obama said that the door is open for “limited” deployment of ground combat troops to help the US-led coalition’s air strikes against ISIS, if recommended by the Pentagon.

‘Reuters’ quoted the White House spokesman Josh Earnest as saying, “The president believes this sort of strikes the right balance of enforcing what he has indicated is our policy while preserving the ability to make some adjustments as necessary.”

“Democrats and Republicans in Congress need to decide how to work together to approve the draft authorization to use military force in the fight against ISIS,” he added.

Earnest noted, “The ground troop limitation would allow special operations missions, such as potential raids targeting ISIL leaders and the failed attempt last summer to rescue Mueller and other hostages held by the group.”
