(IraqiNews.com) US Secretary of State John Kerry described the control of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces over the Syrian town of Kobanî as “a big deal.”

Kerry said, during a trilateral talk with his Mexican and Canadian counterparts in Boston, that, “ISIS forced to acknowledge its own defeat.”

ISIS had faced its biggest defeat in Kobanî since its appearance in the Syrian war in 2013.

After more than four months of fierce fighting, Kurdish Peshmerga forces, backed by the US-led international coalition, were successful in expelling the ISIS militants out of Kobanî.

“We have a long way to go in the overall campaign, but Daesh — ISIL as some know it — has said all along that Kobanî was a real symbolic and strategic objective,” Kerry added.
