Deiz Azzour (SyriaNews.media) Nearly 35 people attending a wedding ceremony were killed late Thursday when Islamic State militants launched missiles targeting Syrian government forces locations in Deir Azzour, a war monitor has reported.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the shelling hit Harabesh district, located near the province’s airport.

The organization added that 14 of the casualties were confirmed dead, but more deaths were expected as many sustained serious injuries.

In March, the observatory said more than 320000 people died in the conflict in place since popular protests demanded President Bashar al-Assad to step down in 2011 before expanding to a wider war pitting government forces against dissident groups, extremist militias, most notably the Islamic State and international powers including the U.S.-led coalition, Russia, Iran and Turkey.
