Deir Ezzor (Syria News) Syrian army troops, backed by allied militia, managed to advance into several areas in the southern and western countryside of Deir Ezzor, Qasioun News reported on Thursday.

After the Islamic State attack on the headquarters of the 137th brigade, the Syrian army forces managed to recapture the strategic Qusaiba Mountain, located 40 kilometers west of Aleppo.

Meanwhile, army forces also recaptured the town of Kobajjep, southwest of Deir Ezzor, the last stronghold of the Islamic State on the road linking between the city of al-sukhna and Deir Ezzor.

Last Tuesday, Syrian government forces managed to break the siege of the Islamic State group on the city, while the latter managed to recapture several military points on the vicinity of the 137th brigade and re-besieged the city.
