Afkham Warns from human catastrophe in Iraqi city of Amerli

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Tuesday warned against human catastrophe in Iraqi northern city of Amerli and the surrounding villages and against massacre of innocent people by terrorists.

Recalling very critical conditions in northern Iraq, which is surrounded and subjected to inhumane attacks of terrorists, Afkham praised two-month resistance of people of the region against terrorists despite lacking in arms and food, while criticizing the double-standard policies of Western states, especially the US government, in dealing with terrorism.

She said at a time when Western media acknowledge that death has cast its shadow on residents of the region in Salahuddin Province of Iraq, no measure has been taken yet to lift the siege on civilians and transfer them to safe places.

She called for prompt action by the international community, especially the UN and other relief and humanitarian organizations to send immediate help to women, children and the elderly in the city, save them from blockade of terrorists and provide them with speedy access to humanitarian and emergency need.

While appreciating sensitivity and vigilant stances of senior Iraqi clerics, government, army and popular forces in fighting terrorism, Afkham underlined Iran`s strong support for the Iraqi people and government and said Iran is ready to send humanitarian aid to people of the region. /End/
