(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has offered his condolences to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi following the attacks on al-Karrada in central Baghdad on Sunday, which claimed a scores of lives apart from injuring a dozen others.

The media office of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, in a statement issued to the media, said, “Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has received a message from the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in which Ki-moon has offered his condolences to the victims of Karrada bombing.”

According to the statement, Ban Ki-moon said, “We offer our sincere condolences to the people and government of the Republic of Iraq for the bombings that took place in Baghdad,” adding, “These attacks were launched because the government of Iraq is liberating many areas from ISIS grip. These terrorists are trying to incite violence and sectarian divisions.”
