Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Chief of Staff General Othman al-Ghanmi, on Saturday, discussed with the Commander of the U.S. Central Command, General Joseph Votel, the security situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border and consequences of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, Alsumaria News reported.

Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the Army Chief of Staff, General Othman al-Ghanmi received a telephone call from Commander of the Central Command, General Joseph Votel, in which they discussed the security situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border, in addition to the consequences of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria.

“The decision to withdraw from Syria comes within a timetable prepared by the U.S. leadership,” the statement quoted the Commander of the U.S. Central Command.

Votel also affirmed the commitment and keenness of the United States of America to support Iraq by fighting the remaining members of the Islamic State terrorist group.”

It is noteworthy that U.S. President Donald Trump said that U.S. forces are leaving Syria after defeating the Islamic State group, while added that other countries such as Turkey could deal with the remnants of the terrorist group.
