Human Rights Committee accuses Parliament of confiscating its supervisory role

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Ashuaq al-Jaaf, member of the parliamentary Human Rights Committee accused the chairmanship of the Iraqi parliament of confiscating the Committee’s supervisory role, criticizing the way of dealing with the reports prepared by the Committee concerning the situation of the prisoners.

Jaaf said “The Parliament did not deal positively with the reports that were presented by the Committee also it could not preserve the Committee’s supervisory role when it was subjected to the condition of obtaining official approval to visit the prisons despite the Committee is considered the highest supervisory authority in the country.”

She called on the “Parliament’s chairmanship to regain the confiscated right of the Committee so as to rehabilitate human rights situation in Iraq.”
