Washington (IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday the head of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey, in a congressional hearing, said that the Iraqi government asked for U.S. air support to help counter the ISIL who invaded parts of Iraq in recent days.

Dempsey added, in front of the Appropriations Subcommittee in the Senate, that “we have a request from the Iraqi government to get the air force to confront the militants of the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant”, but he did not specify when the application was submitted.

Dempsey was asked whether the United States to meet the demand, he answered indirectly saying that “The interest of our national security is to confront the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, wherever we find them.”
