Iraqi consulate to open in Detroit

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A new Iraqi consulate will be opened in Detroit after a U.S. State Department approval is obtained, the Iraqi ambassador to the United States said on Saturday. “The Iraqi embassy in the United States is waiting for a U.S. State Department approval to open a consulate in Detroit, given the large Iraqi community in the city,” Samir al-Sumaidaie told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Another consulate will be opened in San Diego or Los Angeles,” the envoy added. “Fifteen diplomats work in the Iraqi embassy, a relatively small number compared to Egypt’s 80-member mission,” he noted.
