Kerry confirms US support Iraq in confronting terrorism

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Minister of Foreign Affairs of United States, Mr. John Kerry, telephoned Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, and the two sides discussed developments in the security, the political and humanitarian situation in the country.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Iraqi News cited “The minister, Kerry, stressed on the keenness of the United States and its willing to support the government and the Iraqi forces to counter the terrorist serious threat against the Iraqi state and the U.S. government is considering all the available options to deal with the new situation.”

“Mr. Kerry also stressed on the importance of unity of the position of the Iraqi leadership and the constructive cooperation among themselves within the framework of the Constitution and the democratic process to address this security deterioration witnessed in some provinces,” the statement added.

“The two sides discussed a number of steps and practical procedures for closer security and military cooperation as well as the importance of communication with neighboring countries to confirm that the current standoff is not sectarian, but a battle of the state with terrorism and armed groups. The minister Kerry also said that United States provided 12 million dollars as an urgent humanitarian assistance, for the displaced and homeless persons as a result of terrorist attacks on their cities and regions, and the two sides agreed to sustain communication and consultation on the development of the local and regional situation,” the statement concluded.
