Kuwaiti FM arrives in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah arrived in Baghdad on Thursday, marking the first visit by a senior Kuwaiti official in 19 years, media sources said. Upon arrival, Sheikh Mohammad was received by Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. In statements to KUNA, Zebari affirmed the significance of the visit, which came one day after the Kuwaiti embassy in Baghdad celebrated Kuwait’s 48th National Day and 18th anniversary of the Liberation of Kuwait. The visit also paves the way for future trips that would enhance ties between the two Arab countries, the Iraqi foreign minister went on. Sheikh Mohammad is expected to meet Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and members of the Iraqi government as well as the presidency, Zebari said. Zebari said the Kuwaiti foreign minister would deliver a letter from His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Iraqi leadership concerning follow-up of resolutions adopted during the Arab economic summit Kuwait hosted last month. Sheikh Mohammad arrived here from Damascus where he delivered similar messages. He has already visited a number of Arab coungtries as part of the same mission.   SH (S)/SR 1
