Nijaifi meets with US Central Commander Gen. Austin

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, met with the Commander of U.S. Central Command , Gen. Lloyd Austin in Baghdad.

A statement by Nijaifi’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited “The two sides discussed, during the meeting which was also attended by the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad, Stephen Beecroft, the elections file and bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them.”

“Nijaifi confirmed the need to search for political solutions and agree to find a constructive dialogue to create channels of political communications rather than the use of excessive force and taking the lives of innocent citizens, so as to ease progress to the victory over al-Qaeda terrorists and ISIL,” the statement added.

“The atmosphere of the election contaminated with many bad conditions particularly the floods that swept many areas on the outskirts of the capital, Baghdad, which unable population to cast their ballots , as well as the events of Anbar that affected the turnout,” the statement pointed out, quoting Nijaifi as confirming “His strong desire to form a new government in a short period in order to put an end to the aggravated situation.”
