Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Mutahidoun (United) Coalition headed by the parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, accused the government of attempting to foil Anbar and Nineveh’s local elections.

Anbar and Nineveh provinces witnessed on last Monday, conducting the special polling devoted to the security forces (army and police) with participation of 56%, according to the Independent High Electoral Commission report.

A statement by Mutahidoun Coalition cited “We followed up the local elections process in Anbar and Nineveh which were postponed without real justification at a time the official sides did not encourage the security elements to participate in the elections or relieve the difficulties or at least extend the time limit of the elections,” stressing “The only explanation for this is that the government adopts double-standards and does not want the success for the elections in these two provinces.”

“Many security elements faced difficulties in finding their names like what happened in the former elections,” the statement added noting “The IHEC is blamed on this issue and Mutahidoun stresses that the security elements which did not find their names can vote in the general elections.”
