(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, US president Barack Obama congratulated Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on the high oil export rates recorded by Iraq recently, indicating that these rates are the highest in over 30 years, while the two leaders stressed the need to work together to increase Iraq’s oil production and raise its exports in the future.

A joint statement of the United States and Iraq followed by IraqiNews.com said, “US president Barack Obama and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi stressed the need to enhance the prospects of bilateral cooperation under the strategic framework agreement.”

According to the statement, Abadi outlined a group of challenges faced by Iraq as result of lower oil prices and the humanitarian crisis caused by the war against ISIS, in addition to the strategy of his government to support the Iraqi economy, including renovating infrastructure in Iraq and the ongoing reforms to curb corruption.
