Shwani criticizes Majeed’s call for Talabani to clarify legitimacy of hosting Kirkuk Governor by Kurdistan Region Parliament
In a press conference, Shwani said “The visit of Kirkuk Governor to Kurdistan Region parliament is constitutional since
“Majeed’s call through the media outlets is a violation for the constitution because there is a definite procedures within the parliament bylaw for asking officials within the State,” he added.
“As Majeed Asked Talabani, we ask the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, to clarify the constitutional legitimacy of forming Dijla Operations Command and whether its formation is related to the political tensions between Kurdistan Region Government and the Federal Government,” he continued.
“The parliament of Kurdistan Region has the right to host Kirkuk Governor to question him over the recent developments in the province and its negative consequences,” he concluded.
On last Wednesday, MP, Yasin Majid, of the State of Law Coalition called the presidency, parliament and the government to constitutionally clarify hosting Kirkuk Governor by the parliament of Kurdistan Region.
Majid stated in a press statement “The parliament of Kurdistan Region hosted Kirkuk Governor on last Sunday over the latest updates and Dijla Operations Command where I want to know about the stance of Kirkuk Provincial Council, the parliament and the government over this constitutional breach because the Iraqi parliament is the federal one and Kirkuk is one of the federal provinces.”

Earlier, the parliament of Kurdistan Region hosted Kirkuk Governor, Najim al-Din Abdul Karim, to discuss the security situation in the province and the existence of Dijla OC.
