URGENT: Obama welcomes Prime Minister Ebadi’s mandate to form a new government

President Barack Obama welcomed, Monday evening, the assignment of Haider Abadi to form the next government, and described this decision as “an important step”, stressing the continued provision of aid to civilians.

Obama said, in a speech followed by IraqiNews.com, that “we welcome commissioning a new prime minister in Iraq, which is an important step,” adding that “Iraq took a step forward after the assignment of Abadi government.”

Obama added that the assignment of Abadi is a “major step undertaken by Maasum”, noting that “the United States will continue to provide aid to civilians.”

The President of the Republic Fouad Massoum commissioned, earlier, on Monday the leading of coalition of state law, Haider Abadi to form a government, after a dispute lasted for more than two weeks ago. However, the coalition of state law confirmed that they haven’t elected Abadi to be their candidate for prime minister; the coalition of state law pointed out that Abadi’s candidacy has no legal value.
