 US Vice President arrives in Baghdad on unannounced visit

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Thursday, US Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Baghdad on an unannounced visit and met the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

The Associated Press news agency said in a report followed by IraqiNews.com, “This afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Iraq to implore the country’s leaders to resolve a crippling political crisis that has hindered efforts to defeat the Islamic State group.”

The report added,  “Biden landed in Baghdad after a secret, overnight flight from Washington on a military plane,” pointing out that, “The White House didn’t disclose Biden’s itinerary, but said he would meet with Iraqi leadership to stress national unity and discuss the campaign against IS extremists.”

On the other hand the Council of Ministers said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, “Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi met with US Vice President Joe Biden.”
