Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, the Baghdad Provincial Council revealed the withdrawal of a number of major Turkish and Arab companies that were working in the capital after being threatened by local militias because of the political position of their countries on Iraq. The Council warned of the impact of that situation on services and the implementation of critical projects as a result of a “deficit” by security forces to deter those “influential criminal actors.”

The head of the Baghdad Provincial Council, Riyadh al-Adhadh said, in an interview with IraqiNews.com, that “a number of investment and development companies operating in Baghdad stopped working as a result of the security conditions taking place in Iraq now,” referring to the fact that ” the companies, mostly Turkish and Jordanian or Arab, were threatened by militias and armed groups in the streets because of the position of their countries on the current situation in Iraq”.

Al-Adhadh added that” one of those Turkish companies implement a residential complex in Al-Rasheed Camp,” stressing “the Council rejected those behaviors that will reflect negatively on future service and the implementation of projects in Baghdad.”

Many companies that operate major projects in Baghdad suddenly pulled out from the capital because of the security situation gripping the country. The most prominent example is the company that was executing the International Stadium located in Al Habibiya, the east of the capital, Baghdad.
