Basra governor vows drinking water to all Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The governor of Basra has promised to supply drinking water to all areas in the province, explaining that quick solutions will be provided to the water problem. “During a recent visit to Baghdad, Governor Shaltagh Abboud al-Mayah had fruitful talks with the prime minister, which concluded with an agreement to set up a higher committee that includes his senior advisor, Engineer Thamir al-Ghadban, and several experts from the Ministry of Water Resources to work out quick solutions to the water problem,” according to an official statement received by Iraqi News. “Water pipes will be installed in Basra City and al-Sayba district to pump water into Umm Qasr, al-Faw and Abi al-Khaseeb,” the statement noted. The cost of the project, which will be submitted to the Parliament for approval, is $20 million U.S. dollars, the statement added. The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
