(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The National Iranian Gas Company stated that it will start to export shipments of 7 million cubic meters a day to supply a power plant in Baghdad.

The director of the National Iranian Gas Company Hamid Reza Araghi, in a press statement, said, “Shipments will start at 7 million cubic meters a day to supply a power plant in Baghdad. A second route to Basra will be opened in 2017, with shipments eventually reaching 70 million cubic meters a day.”

Iran is boosting crude oil and natural gas exports after international sanctions were eased in January earlier this year, while its crude output has rebounded faster than expected, the natural gas exports to Iraq have taken more time. The National Iranian Gas Export Co. said in 2014 that it would start exporting to Iraq from the following year.
