Iraq to import gas from Iran

Follow-up (IraqiNews.com) Iraq has concluded a new agreement with Iran to import 25 million cubic meters of gas daily.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers has already approved to authorize the Oil Minister to sign an agreement to start a project for establishing the Gas transferring pipeline through Iran, Iraq, Syria and Europe.

The Iranian Mehr News Agency quoted the Assistant of the Iranian President for International Affairs Ali Saeed Lu as saying “The Iranian Oil Ministry concluded an agreement with its Iraqi counterpart to export Iranian gas to Iraq to coincide with another agreement over increasing the electricity exports to Iraq.”

The Iranian official pointed out “According to the new agreement, the Iranian Oil Ministry will export 25 million cubic meters of gas daily from Pars Junoubi oil field of western Iran to Iraq.”

He added “We have a strategy to turn Iraq into a transit point for transporting electricity power from Iran into Syria and Lebanon soon.”
