ISX to launch corporate governance project

BAGHDAD / The Iraqi Stock Exchange (ISX) is making preparations to launch a corporate governance project and to create an online trading presence, the executive director of the stock market said on Thursday. “A corporate governance project will be carried out through appropriate legislation that regulates the company’s administration, responsibilities and duties…,” Taha Ahmed Abdulsalam told Iraqi News. Corporate governance is a term that refers broadly to the rules, processes, or laws by which businesses are operated, regulated, and controlled. The term can refer to internal factors defined by the officers, stockholders or constitution of a corporation, as well as to external forces such as consumer groups, clients, and government regulations. “There are also preparations for launching an online trading,” Abdulsalam noted, adding that advanced back office systems will be employed in the process. The ISX holds three electronic sessions on a weekly basis: on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. SS (P) 1
