Oil Ministry denies changing Karbala’s refinery site

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Oil Ministry today denied any changes to Karbala‘s refinery, as reported by its spokesman. Asim Jihad told IraqiNews.com that all agreements on Karbala‘s refinery site were set with the Transport Ministry. He denied the reports that the site had been changed due to its proximity to Al-Furat Airport’s location. Karbala‘s Energy and Fuel Commission Chairman Zuhair Samit al-Da’mi on Monday called the Iraqi Oil Ministry to find an alternative site due to its proximity to the airport. He pointed out that the two projects are located in one area, “so it is necessary to move one of the projects out of the site.” Da’mi called on the Oil Ministry to change the site into the desert area west of the province.
