Russian Lukoil Co. aspires to invest Kirkuk oil fields[08/03/2013]

(IraqiNews.com) The Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki received a message from the Russian government carries the Russian oil companies’ aspiration to work at Kirkuk oil fields.

Source at the Russian oil sector said on last Friday “The Government of Russia sent a message to the Premier, Maliki, shows that the Russian Lukoil Company is interested in Kirkuk, without mentioning further details.”

During his last visit to Moscow in last July, Maliki discussed with Wahid Ali Akbarouv, Head of Lukoil Co., the prospects of mutual cooperation where Maliki stressed during the meeting “Iraq seeks to raise its oil production and expand the oil industries and establish refineries, assuring “Lukoil Co. is one of the reliable companies that Baghdad trusts, welcoming the Lukoil’s willingness to extend its investments in Iraq.”

For his part, Akbarouv emphasized his Company’s intention to double its investments in field of oil extraction and the petrochemical industries, according to a statement by the Premier’s office.

Lukoil Co. is upgrading Gharb al-Qurna oil field in south of Iraq which is expected to be inaugurated by end of 2013.
