VP leads delegation to economic summit

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi on Monday led a delegation to Istanbul to attend the first economic summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), according to a presidential statement. “The delegation will submit a number of demands at the conference, most prominently the calls to write off Iraq’s debts to some Islamic countries, mainly Kuwait,” a political advisor to Hashemi, Khalil al-Azzawi, said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Hashemi will also call for a more effective role by his country in the organization. Hashemi is scheduled to meet with country leaders and politicians to discuss crucial issues, including the water crisis, the statement added. SS (P) 1
