(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The German Foreign Ministry stated, that the Iraqi embassy in Berlin has recently issued 1400 passports for Iraqi immigrants wishing to return to their country.

A ministry official said in a statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “150 passports had been issued here by the end of last October.”

Separately, a source in the ministry said: “The increase may be related to recent developments in the conflict in Iraq.”

Noteworthy, Iraqi Anti-Terrorism forces were able to expel ISIS extremists from the neighborhoods of the city of Ramadi last month in the first major success for the Iraqi army since its collapse 18 months ago.

Meanwhile, German Interior Ministry data declared, that Iraq was the fifth country for asylum applications in Germany in 2015, while the German government has urged the authorities in the countries of origin of migrants and refugees to provide passports for people willing to return.
